Soothing swaths of ground covers, shrubs, roses and trees fill this broad border.

What had been an all-lawn, back-door entrance has been transformed into a flowery welcome for guests, complete with boulders, lighting, a new bench and a decomposed granite path that leads from the driveway to the family room, enclosed patio and beyond.

From the family room steps, the view had been of green on green, with just a dot of white from the shed. Now the graceful pool of lawn is encircled by lavender, Santa Barbara daisies, pink marguerite daisies, pink coral bells and other long-blooming plants, while the shed, now painted green, fades into the distance.
